- Maple Lake Artisan Collective
- As of earlier this month I joined the Maple Lake Artisan Collective, A.K.A. The Art Hive. This is a great group of 15 artist of all media, with a little something for everyone. With a storefront gallery right on Hwy 118, it's a great spot to stop by on your way to the cottage and have a coffee and browse some beautiful contemporary Canadian art by local artists! If you will be in the area for a while, you may even want to check out some of the workshops offered by the artists. Click here to check out the website.
- Emerging Artist exhibit at the Burlington Arts Centre: "Being There"
- I recently passed the final selection process for the Burlington Art Centre's emerging artist exhibit, curated by Brad Isaacs and Ola Wlusek. I'm very happy about this as it is my first gallery curated show and I am in some rather accomplished company. I will be showing a series of images that explores conciousness, memory, and the dream state through long and multiple exposures, layering, and the occasionally intentionally degraded images.
This exhibit is part of the group show "Being There" curated by Brad Isaacs and Ola Wlusek, which explores environment and our relationship to it. It features seven artist including myself in the early stages of their career.
"What is our immediate environment if not a compilation of memories of objects touched, found, acquired, used, broken, given, forgotten, and stolen? Dan Guerin offers the fragility of his memory in a specimen-like presentation of his black and white photographs derived from his travels across Canada. In a single moment of inspiration, Guerin captures fragments of an old house in which he lived while in Jasper. Upon his return to Ontario, only these haunting images and lingering memories remain from his expedition. How accurate are those memories after all? How do they shape or mishape the places he has seen and inhabited? Embedded in wax, foggy and lacking in colour, the photographs lie in the reliquary of his mind and in the wooden shrine before us. " Ola Wlusek, Curator.
These will also be subject to my wax-coating process and hopefully (if it can be worked out) will be displayed in a wodden light box, illuminating the prints from behind, which appear to levitate within their frames.
- Impressions and Expressions in the Streetsville Arts Festival
- In September I will also be showing a series called "Impressions and Expressions" at the 168 bistro in Mississauga. This will be part of the Streetsville Arts festival. These images are either impressions of the chosen subject matter, or expressions of my feelings while viewing the subject. Bright, coloufull, and youthfully exuberant this is a perfect exhibit to view as a pick-me-up on rainy days. This is also the inaugural year of the S.A.F. which coincides with Streetsvilles 150th anniversary. For more information check out the website here.
- Jones Soda
- I recently submitted a few pictures for consideration as Jones Soda labels. You can view and vote for them through these links: one, two, three, four, five.
- Just to let you know, if you are voting do it only once (at least from each computer) as they track the IP address and if one is voting more than once they reset the vote count.
